Phantom Blade Zero is an action RPG (Steam genres: Action, RPG). This page summarises the systems the developer has described. It does not list move lists, boss strategies or item stats, because the sources checked do not publish them.
Combat
Steam says combat flows through seamless combos that are easy to learn and rewarding to master, with players dodging, deflecting, countering and striking in one flow. The creative director says the goal is to make you feel powerful and cool, and that the game keeps familiar action conventions while reworking them. The November 4 patch changed some boss and enemy behaviour and weapon hit feedback, so details may have shifted since launch.
Weapons and Phantom Edges
The store page promises more than 30 primary weapons and more than 20 unique Phantom Edges, which it says are wrested from fallen foes. The sources checked do not list the weapons or say how Phantom Edges are used, so we do not either.
Exploration
Steam describes hidden passages and intricate mechanisms alongside the Phantom World's secrets. Screenshots show rain-soaked piers, villages and burning courtyards. The developer's earlier letter also mentions a deep-dive State of Play on world, combat, exploration and character progression, but we did not check that video, so we do not summarise it.
Difficulty and options
Steam lists adjustable difficulty. The patch notes name the Wayfarer and Pathbreaker settings and say other difficulty settings are unaffected by one change, but the full list of difficulties is not given in the sources we checked. The audio settings include an option to adjust the tone of clashing blades, and the November 4 patch added hit sound intensity options.
Presentation and tech
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5. The developer says renowned martial arts choreographers from the golden age of wuxia cinema worked with motion capture, and that moves are rooted in real martial techniques. The letter says the music director composed more than ten hours of music almost entirely alone. A day-one patch improved ray tracing and path tracing performance.
Progression
Steam mentions 66 achievements and Steam Cloud saves. The sources checked do not describe skill trees, levelling or equipment systems, so we do not list any.
