Spirit Crossing story and setting
Spirit Crossing is built around atmosphere and connection more than a linear plot. This page covers what Spry Fox has said about the world.
The Crosslands
The game is set in the Crosslands, described as a storm-swept world above the clouds. The Steam page says magical storms sweep across it, wreaking havoc on spirits and humans alike. Each day brings new quests to rebuild your community, heal troubled spirits and restore joy through music. As you learn the language of the spirits, they reward you with unique items and reveal their stories and struggles.
The opening
In the June 2026 playtest announcement, the studio says you follow the track of a spirit broken by the storm and arrive in the Crosslands, a distant place filled with troubled spirits, intriguing villagers and tiny bears. It recommends watching the in-game intro cinematic on your first play.
The bears
The Steam text asks "What's with the bears?" and answers with the studio's history: it has been making games for almost twenty years, including Triple Town, Cozy Grove and Alphabear. The December 2025 announcement introduced three bears: Rudi, a resident anti-capitalist who likes friendly water balloon competitions; Hardtack, a gruff seafaring bear who hosts fishing tournaments; and Eudora, who helps you feel at home in the Waystations. The Feast of Bears event in update 15.4 centres on the yearly bear hibernation celebration.
Themes
Spry Fox says the game is built around small acts of kindness and how brief connections can make people feel less alone. Other players appear as shadows and bloom into colour when you interact with them.
