DREADMOOR gameplay and mechanics

Last checked 2026-11-062 min read

This page summarises systems the developer has described. It does not list fish species, recipe details, prices or stats because the sources we checked do not publish them. The game is entering Early Access, so systems may change.

Fishing

Steam describes skill-based fishing: you search for good spots, experiment with different baits and cast into murky water. The developer says it is not a relaxing activity in this game but a fight for survival, and that sea creatures eat each other. Dev diary 2 says catches feed directly into progression. You sort your catch and watch the hold, and more dangerous prey sells for higher prices to the traders of the Submerged Lands.

The trawler

The trawler starts worn out and is both transport and lifeline. In the dry dock you craft and install components piece by piece: engine, propeller, hull reinforcement, a canister rack for spare fuel, a spotlight and an afterburner for bursts of speed. Dev diary 6 says the world is built around distance and risk, and that the trawler lets you reach dangerous places and return from them.

Scavenging and crafting

You explore abandoned buildings, caves and shipwrecks for scrap metal and blueprints. Resources become specialised bait, reinforced harpoons, rare medicines and survival tools. The Steam content note adds that fish can be dissected to harvest organs and body parts used to craft lures and gear.

Combat and threats

Mutated creatures on sea and land create real-time confrontations. Dev diary 5 says combat is not constant and that tension comes from fog, silence, distance from safety and uncertainty about whether a sound or stretch of water is dangerous. A weapon teaser in that post showed a primitive weapon for breaking objects.

Night expeditions

The October 15 announcement says that when daylight fades, familiar waters become less predictable, and night trips may bring new opportunities and greater risks.

Early Access scope

At launch there is a complete core loop and one major region. The developer says the world will keep being developed and that it is keeping its plans flexible. It has not announced specific new content or a full-release date.
